The Wave: Campaign Against Hunger Comes To Rockaway

The Campaign Against Hunger has been working to alleviate issues of food insecurity across New York City for years, and this past week the organization stepped up their efforts on the Rockaway peninsula with a turkey drive, working to ensure that no one in our area goes hungry this Thanksgiving.

On Monday, Nov. 23, members of the Campaign Against Hunger made their way to their Far Rock Farm on Beach 45th Street, where they began distributing food to feed an estimated 500 people in the area.

“We love the Rockaways,” Dr. Melony Samuels, Executive Director and Founder of The Campaign Against Hunger. “We are glad to provide well-needed food for families who are struggling this Thanksgiving. Thank you to our Far Rockaway partners for engaging with us!

We wish everyone a healthy and happy holiday season, and we hope to be a lifeline for residents who are facing food insecurity.”

“For many people, this will be the first socially distant Thanksgiving,” added Christine Rock,  a Marketing and Communications Associate with the organization. “Events like this one show that we are in this together. I am so impressed by the resilience of the Far Rockaway community, and I am grateful for this opportunity to serve our neighbors through food distribution.”

In addition to this latest endeavor, the Campaign Against Hunger also provides youth employment opportunities through its urban farm initiative and other programs, which are meant to give people in Rockaway hands-on work experience to help build a better future for themselves.
