SYEP Youth in the Garden
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) gets youth across the city into summertime positions that build their leadership skills and professional experience. There are 12 SYEP participants at the Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger this year. They help serve customers in our pantry and office, unload food deliveries, and maintain our urban garden plots. The youth gardeners are learning everything from gardening basics, like how to water and weed, to sustainability concepts, like how and why we make compost. Check out these youth as they water our okra plants and chop up spoiled veggies to make compost… They are doing a great job!
