Across Generations: Green Teens Help with Seniors’ Home Planters
The Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger has introduced an innovative program that includes giving senior citizens free sub-irrigated planters to grow vegetables right in their backyards. Designed and implemented with Feedback Farms and built by BSCAH’s very own Green Teens using recycled materials, these planters are growing kale, peppers, tomatoes, herbs, and just about any other plant you desire. The planters are customized and raised above ground level to make them easier for the senior gardeners to maintain. Through monthly check ins, our Green Teens help seniors maintain their gardens, in addition to teaching basic gardening skills and nutritional information.
