The Wave: The Campaign Against Hunger Expands Fleet
With local leaders’ support, TCAH is enhancing food security efforts in NYC
The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH) is expanding its vehicle fleet in Brooklyn and Queens, supported by leaders like Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers. With four Ford Sprinter Cargo Vans and a forthcoming refrigerated truck, TCAH aims to improve food delivery to underserved communities in Brooklyn and Southeastern Queens, known as food and transportation deserts.
“With our Cyberpantry and Fresh Vibes E-market vehicles, we’re driving towards a future where nutritious food reaches every corner of our community,” said Dr. Melony Samuels, Founder & CEO of The Campaign Against Hunger. It’s about revolutionizing how we grow, distribute, and consume food, ensuring access for all to thrive in tomorrow’s food landscape.”
Reynoso’s funding of three vehicles, including a forthcoming refrigerated truck, enhances TCAH’s capacity to transport fresh produce safely, while Powers’ contribution strengthens efforts to address the needs of food-insecure Southern Queens residents.
“The scope of The Campaign Against Hunger and food transportation services are vital in tackling food insecurity in Queens,” said New York City Council Majority Whip Selvena N. Brooks-Powers. “The expansion of the Cyberpantry and Fresh Vibes E-Market is key to reaching New Yorkers most impacted by lack of access to food and will continue to enhance the quality of life of Far Rockaway and Southeast Queens residents. I look forward to continuing to work together in support of The Campaign Against Hunger to ensure vulnerable and underserved communities have the resources necessary for nutritious meals.”
These vehicles are vital to TCAH’s Cyberpantry and Fresh Vibes E-market initiatives, equipped with advanced safety and navigation technology to efficiently reach every corner of the city. This enhancement aligns with TCAH’s mission as it prepares for the 13th Annual Planter Awards, themed “Envisioning Tomorrow’s Food,” highlighting progress towards eradicating hunger.
The four trucks, funded by the dual grant, mark a significant advancement in TCAH’s operations, enabling the delivery of fresh foods in optimal condition. With a presence in Brooklyn and extensive operations in Far Rockaway, TCAH utilizes community support to ensure all New Yorkers have access to nutritious food.
Reynoso and Powers’ support reflects impactful partnerships driving TCAH’s mission toward food security for every New Yorker.
For 25 years, TCAH has empowered communities by increasing access to nutritious food, serving 14,000 families weekly, and providing over 25 million nutritious meals. The Cyberpantry and Fresh Vibes E-market initiatives ensure dignified access to food, while TCAH’s partnership with the Citi Foundation enables Fresh Vibes Emarket, to accept various payment options to make healthy food accessible to all.
TCAH’s commitment to inclusivity and technology bridges the gap in food accessibility, aligning with its vision for a nourished, thriving tomorrow. The organization addresses economic disparities in areas like Southeast Queens and Brooklyn, impacting food accessibility.
Rising disability rates and poverty among the elderly underscore the urgent need for targeted policies to improve employment opportunities and access to nutritious food. TCAH’s 13th Annual Planter Awards Gala, themed “Envisioning Tomorrow’s Food,” rallies community support for innovative food security initiatives.
